Out of the mouths of babes!
January 12th, 2007
Well, not exactly a babe, but my son Josh has been posting some very mature, thought provoking posts on his blog over at Xanga. This one on facing the new year and this one on being a witness are particularly good.
I quote the second one for your consumption:
How can I be a witness today??
O how wretched and sinful I am. Father God bring me back to my first love. O Heavenly Sower, plow me first, and then cast the truth into me, and let me yield a bounteous harvest.
“But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ.” -Phil. 3:7,8
How many of us can say that we count ALL things(money, fame, worries, education, friends, family, etc..) loss compared to even knowing Christ? The value of knowing Him does not compare to anything else. Just being able to call Him father and Him call you child should be enough; I mean He is the one who created you and me, He gave life, shouldn’t that be enough for us to fall down and praise him? After all, look at what we deserve, nothing but death and punishment for eternity. I know that I struggle with putting Christ first in all areas of my life. I need your prayers. I pray that my thoughts every morning will be of how I can grow in Christ and be like salt of the earth to this dark sinful world. That I may count all things but rubbish so that I may gain Christ. Let’s go forth and proclaim the gospel wherever we are, but first, it must start in personal devotions, inside the heart that longs to do the Will of the Father.
May God bless you this very day with an eagerness to reach the hearts of lost souls, as well as your very own soul that it might become a heart of worship for Him.
I hope you enjoyed this. It is especially timely in light of the tremendous financial hardship we’re going through now. (All related to the IRS. That’s a story for another time.) It put things in perspective for me. One thing to remember when we suffer hardship is that this time on earth is just a single dot compared to eternity. What do we value? Do we see His glory in everything, including hardship?
I pray oh Lord that you would be glorified in all that I do and all that I go through, good and bad. Please use these things to make me that child of the King that I’m to be for all eternity.
Later,
Jim
