Things I’m Looking At - 01/23/2007
January 23rd, 2007
Here’s a list of things I’ve been reading, listing to, or viewing lately.
Blogs:
I’ve been reading Mark Cafiero’s blog over at http://www.sixpeeps.com. Mark uses his blog as a marketing tool and I think it’s a good idea. His photography is also top-notch. I’ve hijacked his style and method and started my own blog for Jim Rector Photography at http://blog.wondershots.com. Be sure to take a look there also.
Another blog that keeps me interested daily is La Shawn Barber’s blog. La Shawn is an African-American female blogger and has some very interesting perspectives. I find her thoughts on the Duke rape case especially interesting. You owe it to yourself to have a look.
Of course I daily read blogs by Dan Phillips, Phil Johnson, and others over at http://teampyro.blogspot.com/. Tim Challies is also a favorite. Although he usually makes me think real hard, Tim’s tongue-in-cheek “Things I Hate About America” was especially entertaining.
Reading:
I enjoy novels of all types. I’m currently reading The Survivors Club by Lisa Gardner. This is the third novel I’ve read using my PDA instead of actually buying the paperback book. I’ve bought “eBooks” from BooksOnBoard and Fictionwise. So far I like this format and the fact that I don’t have a bunch of old paperbacks laying around. It does make it difficult to pass on when your through though.
I’m still working my way through Praying Backwards: Transforming Your Prayer Life by Beginning in Jesus Name by Bryan Chapell. Usually I work my way through spiritual or doctrinal books slowly so it’s no surprise that it’s taking a while.
Watching:
My wife Carole and I are working our way through 24: Season 5. We’re waiting on disks 5 and 6 to arrive from Netflix. This show is best watched after the season is over and on DVD. That way you don’t have to wait for next week to see what’s going to happen. One warning however, you may find yourself staying up to the wee hours of the morning for that very reason. Just when I think I’m beginning to figure out what plot twists will happen next the writers of the show throw me for a loop. I guess that’s why I like the show so much.
One more note. I just got a Sandisk Sansa e250 MP3 player. Right now I have a bunch of stuff from Sovereign Grace Music on there for my music listening and some sermons from the 2006 Desiring God Conference.
